Can a Christ-follower be bound by sin after salvation?
Yoked to Christ (Matthew 11:28-30) Yet Bound by Sin (John 8:34)
Dear Daughter of God,
Scripture affirms that believers are freed in Christ, yet it also soberly warns that freedom can be forfeited experientially through ongoing sin, deception, unbelief, neglect, and trauma.
Re-entanglement Warnings:
* Galatians 5:1
“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”
Sin Has Binding Power When Yielded to:
* John 8:34
“Everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.”
Believers Can Be Taken Captive:
* 2 Timothy 2:25–26
“…they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.”
Sin Unaddressed Hardens and Binds:
* Hebrews 3:12–13
“Exhort one another… that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”
Freedom Can Be Undermined by the Flesh:
* Galatians 5:13
“Do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh.”
Lawlessness & Ongoing Sin Separate Fellowship:
* 1 John 1:6
“If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie.”
Failure to Abide Leads to Fruitlessness:
* John 15:4–6
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch.”
Discipline is corrective, not condemning:
* Hebrews 12:5–11
“The Lord disciplines the one He loves.”
Hope: Bondage Is Not the Final Word!
Freedom is always recoverable through repentance.
* 1 John 1:7–9
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just…”
* Romans 8:1–2
“The law of the Spirit of life has set you free.”
WE ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF GOD’S GLORY (Romans 3:23)
BUT/AND "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1).
The invitation is to cry out to the LORD while He may be found (Isaiah 55:6), discover the depths of His immeasurable love, and be reconciled unto the Great Lover of your soul~ JESUS.
"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit,”-Psalm 34:18
